Tips For 1st Time Exhibitors

  1. Have your tradeshow display designed and built by a qualified display company. Get expert advice.

  2. Have your display company review your show order forms with you to insure that your paperwork is completed.

  3. Submit your show forms early and avoid expensive surcharges.

  4. If you use an outside contractor to install and dismantle your display, then question if there are any hidden charges. Most independent contractors will charge up to 30% additional, over and above labor charges for supervision, or for items they order on your behalf at show site.

  5. Use an experienced tradeshow trucking company. The trucking company you hire must know the ins and outs of making a delivery or pick up at a convention center. Inexperience can cause your delivery to be delayed with your company incurring expensive waiting time charges.

  6. Make Hotel reservations as early as possible in order to take advantage of discounts. Many hotels offer a discount package for the show you are attending. You must ask! The reservations person you speak to may not openly offer you this information.

  7. Make airline reservations as early as possible in order to take advantage of discounts

  8. Read through your General Contractor’s (GC) entire Exhibitor Service Kit (ESK) carefully.

  9. Note all deadlines and plan for them. If some things are unfamiliar to you, then contact your GC with your questions.

  10. Read the section about labor union work rules. There are many things you might think you can handle yourself that require the use of union labor. For example, only union labor can use power tools in setting up or taking down booths.

  11. Review the Booth Guidelines section in your show manual for a list of amenities included with your booth space.

  12. If available, use the ESK glossary to become familiar with tradeshow terminology. You can also ask your exhibit manufacturer.

  13. Take advantage of the social and networking events in the evenings. Expect to return with lots of leads, contacts and knowledge so that you can begin to grow your business immediately!

  14. Order your show badges in advance of the pre-registration date so they are mailed to you prior to the show. This is a great way to avoid the registration lines onsite.
